Zipolite is a 1,9 kilometer beach, bounded by two huge rocks on both ends and facing south towards the pacific ocean. In the east follows the lovely tiny beach of Playa del Amor.

The historical center of the village is located on the eastern part of the beach, which is separated from the Colonia Roca Blanca by the Rehabilitation center "Piña Palmera". In June 2003 they began to pave Roca Blanca, nightlife is increasing.

Life in Zipo (Tourist-Slang-word) has infinite possibilities between doing absolutely nothing and lying in your hammock to exploring the impressive landscapes of the Costa Chica or writing your novel without the disturbing influence of the so-called civilization.

But this does not mean that there is nothing going on in Zipo. So slip out of the hammock, put down your manuscript, have a cocktail and enjoy this little piece of paradise.

Last and not least Zipolite is one of the few mexican beaches where nudism is allowed!

Beach and Sea

The high waves invite you to boogie boarding or body surfing. Surf in Zipolite can vary from calm to rough. The strong currents prevent Zipolite from being overrun by mass tourism, so be careful when you go into the water. Do not swim out if currents are strong and take the advice of the lifeguards seriously. These volunteers save dozens of lives a year and still some people drown. They watch the sea and set signal flags daily that you should observe like traffic lights. Red means that you should not enter the water at all, yellow is signalizing to take care and the green flag means ideal swimming conditions.

Accommodation

The most rooms you get along the beach front. You will find about five hotels and lots of guesthouses and cabañas. Prices move between 50 and 400 pesos for a room, for sleeping in a hamock you will be charged between 20 and 30 pesos.

Food and Drinks

Zipolite is the perfect place to celebrate holidays. During nighttime two discos open their doors: "La Puesta" in Roca Blanca and the "Zipolipas" in the center of the village.

Beside that good music is featured in some bars, there are international restaurants, taco-stands and cafes.

On the beach you will get offered rich tacos, tamales and different snacks.

Shopping

Shopping possibilities in Zipolite reach from groceries, greengrocers, pharmacies untill food stores. But there is fortunately no bank in the village, what means that sometimes you will have to leave your hamock and visit lovely Pochutla. In the town of the pochotle-tree you will find some banks with cash dispenser.

All day long hamocks, clothes as well as mexican art and handcraft are sold on the beach and some shops.

Communication

Phone-service is available in various hotels, shops and in the cyber-cafes. There are four of them, all situated in Roca Blanca. The breeze of the ocean doesn’t really enlarge machines lifetime, so don’t discuss about the really cheap prizes for internt.

Sometimes Roca Blanca offers also a post box, but actually it’s closed ...

How to get there

Zipolite can be reached by special-taxi, taxi-colectivo, camionetas (public pick up), or bus from lively Pochutla. Costs are between 7 and 100 pesos, depending on day or nighttime, number of passengers and type of verhicle. Most expensive is the special-taxi, cheapest the camioneta.
