COSTA CHICA The Costa Chica (short coast in Spanish) is one of two
regions in Mexico with significant black communities, the other being
the state of Veracruz on the Gulf coast. The Costa Chica is a 200-mile
long coastal region beginning just southeast of Acapulco, Gro., and ending
near the town of Puerto Angel, Oaxaca. ZIPOLITE Zipolite, near Puerto Angel, in the State of Oaxaca is a free and easy
beach destination where many tourists go to relax. We slept in our hammocks
on the edge of the beach, whilst others baked naked on the beach, played
volleyball and generally spent the day relaxing. The principal activity here in Zipolite is "just resting".
Resting involved in a very magical enviromet plenty of wildness and peace,
living in touch with the nature. It is something that all our visitors
have described like "a magic world" very far from any civilization
or noise … ... a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Zipolite
(Beach of the Dead) and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led
Zep, Marley, scruffy gringos … Zipolite offers the best of the modern and ancient worlds. It has become a Mecca for budget travelers from all over the world, who reach it easily by modern transportation systems and find a variety of inexpensive accommodations on and near the beach. At the same time, it has been spared the environmental destruction of modern "development", which would crowd Zipolite's beautiful beach with expensive hotel rooms, bars and parking lots.
